Library Board Meeting
The library board of trustees will be meeting on Thursday, June 20th at 5:00PM in the adult meeting room.

Public comment will be accepted at the conclusion of regular board business in accordance with the board meeting agenda. Members of the public intending to make comment to the board must first identify themselves by stating their full name and home address. All speakers participating in the public comment section agree to adhere to a five-minute time limit. If any member of the public is determined to be disruptive, the board reserves the right to terminate their public comment prior to the end of the time allotment. This will include audio being placed on mute if meeting attendance is virtual.

Adult Sumer Reading: Blind Date with a Book
Blind Date with a Book is back!

Join us at the library for our exciting adult summer reading program: Adventure Begins at Your Library! Participation is simple, just visit the summer reading table at the reference desk, and choose a "date" from the selection. Go ahead, be "adventurous", and choose to "date" a book you might not normally choose.

There will be a "Rate Your Date" card inside the book. Return that card for a chance at one of two prizes. The first prize drawing is July 26, so please return the card by July 25. The prize is two tickets to a showing of "The British Invasion Experience" at The Broadway Theatre of Pitman on August 10. The second prize drawing is Sept. 9, so please return the card by Sept. 8. The second prize is a $50 gift card for Barnes & Noble. Though only Margaret E. Heggan patrons are eligible for prizes, all can choose to take out one of our dates!

The Library is Hiring a PT Adult Services Librarian
The Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library of Washington Township in Sewell, NJ seeks a PT Adult Services Librarian to work every Saturday from 9:30 AM until 5 PM, alternating Sundays from noon until 5 PM, and substitute hours as needed. This position reports to the FT Adult Services Supervisor. The library is open seven days per week throughout the entire year, including Sundays. The library is closed on most major holidays and Sunday holidays including Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Easter. Responsibilities include providing reference and readers' advisory services, assisting patrons in the computer lab and with the use of electronic resources, developing a small portion of the library collection, assisting with displays, and participating in professional development. The person in this position will be the librarian in charge, responsible for the staff and the building, during Saturday and Sunday shifts. Other duties include performing all other library functions at the direction of the supervisor.

This position requires a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program or a NJ State Professional Librarian's Certificate. Three years of experience as a professional adult services librarian preferred. Strong customer service skills are essential and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others. Knowledge of print and electronic reference and reader's advisory tools is essential. Ability to adapt to new technologies is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated librarian who loves helping others.

The Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library is an independent municipal library, serving the residents of Washington Township in Gloucester County since 1966. The library is a 20,000 square foot building with a 2024 fiscal year operating budget of over two million dollars. The reference desk is staffed by professional librarians during all operating hours, and the librarian on duty at the reference desk is in charge of the building in the absence of the Library Director.

The hourly range for this position is $27.05 - $37.87 and pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Per the NJ Paid Sick Leave Act, all staff receive paid sick time. The library pays for memberships to the NJ Library Association and the American Library Association for all librarians. The selected candidate, if not a New Jersey resident, will be required to establish New Jersey residency within a year of appointment in accordance with the New Jersey First Act. The Library is Hiring a FT Adult Services Supervisor
The Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library of Washington Township in Sewell, NJ seeks applicants for Adult Services Supervisor. The Adult Services Supervisor is responsible for managing all adult services operations, including staff supervision, adult programming, collection development, readers' advisory, reference services, and outreach. As a part of the library director's management team, the Adult Services Supervisor is responsible for collaborating with other library supervisors and departments, assisting with the revision of library policies and procedures relevant to adult services, and implementing strategic planning goals.

The applicant must have proven managerial and organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and a strong knowledge of library services for adults. The applicant must also have the capability to supervise others and have a thorough knowledge of personnel management. Knowledge of modern technology functions is necessary.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience as a professional librarian working with adults, preferably in a public library. The ideal candidate will also have at least two years of supervisory experience, preferably with experience directly supervising other adult services librarians. It is essential that the Adult Services Supervisor is able to tactfully lead and motivate others and is a strong role model who can prioritize duties and meet deadlines in a changing environment. The person in this position must love working with people, especially adults, and must be energetic with a passion for providing excellent customer service in a public library setting.

This position requires a graduate degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited program or a NJ State Professional Librarian's Certificate. This is a full-time position of 35 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends. The salary range for this position is $59,039 - $79,039 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The library provides excellent benefits. Full time employees must enroll in the NJ pension system. Per the NJ First Act, residency in New Jersey is required within one year from date of hire.
