Teen Writing Contests

The Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library celebrates the creativity of our Young Adult patrons every season in our Teen Writing Contests! Writers are tasked with creating an original short story following a particular theme. Winners of the contest earn publication in the Heggan Happenings Teen Edition Newsletter and a $50 Barnes and Nobles gift card!
Last Contest: Winter 2021 “Snowy Weather”
The Writing Club selected a snow theme for the winter challenge. Snowy weather needed to be an important part of the story.
Winner: “A Cup of Cocoa” by E’lon Rodwell-Simon
Current Contest: Spring 2022 “Flowers”
Currently, the Writing Club is working on a challenge with a topic/title of FLOWERS. Flowers must play an important role in this original story.
